We have a great day planned for the final Stationery Saturday of the year! In addition to the regular stationery-while-you-wait plan, we’ll be showcasing the amazing hats of designer Amy Downs. With $29 personalized stationery, the unique winter caps, and our shoppe full holiday cards, wrapping paper, and all sorts of great gifts, we think Lunalux will be THE place for last-minute holiday cheer and shopping this Saturday!
We’re so excited that Amy Downs will be selling her hats at Lunalux. Amy had her own little shop in New York’s East Village for 20 years, so we’re very excited to be sharing her creations with our customers. You can read more about Amy and see some of her work on her website www.amydownshats.com. We’ll also have homemade Christmas cookies and freshly brewed coffee for your snacking enjoyment.
Stationery Saturday runs 11a.m.-6p.m. This week we’re printing stationery sheets with ornate vintage monograms. The 5.5 by 8.5-inch stationery sheets can be packed with your choice of white or brightly colored envelopes. At $29 for 10 personalized sheets and envelopes, we think this makes a very special holiday gift (or a little treat for yourself!). You’ll find more details about the event on the Stationery Saturdays page.
W7 Collective is a newish one-weekend-per-month shopping boutique on West 7th in St. Paul. Each month the shop features a fresh mix of artful goods, curated by Judy Shimota and Jennifer Paquette. This month’s spotlight category: paper goods. Lunalux notes and holiday cards are being featured, along with some other great lines. Our favorites: cards & calendars featuring delicious photographs by Kitty Rogers (also a Lunalux worker bee); and foul-mouthed letterpress-printed greeting cards by Mary Bruno of Bruno Press. In addition to the top-notch paper selection, there’s also bulky knit hats & scarves; hand-crafted jewelry; screen-printed leather goods; and more. There’s no reason not to head over there right now and get most of your holiday shopping done!
W7 Collective is located at 1032 West 7th Street in St. Paul; the shop is open Friday Dec. 11 (10a.m.-9p.m.) and Saturday Dec. 12 (10a.m.-3p.m.) Stop by Friday night if you want to get your party on whilst shopping – there will be wine, treats and live music. You’ll find more info on the W7 website www.w7collective.com.
A Target catalog arrived in my mailbox recently. I have a love/hate thing for this mega-store. It’s a great source for cheap stuff, and as a Minnesotan I’m mildly proud of the local corporation’s endless expansion. But as the owner of a small, independent business, I think of Target as the Big Bad Retail Wolf, guiltlessly trying to devour everything in sight, including me. So imagine my surprise/delight/horror when I discovered a Lunalux card being used as a prop in Target’s holiday catalog! On page 45 there’s a handsome wooden charging station, its bottom drawer open just enough to expose a secret stash of stationery. See the red and white card peeking out? That’s a limited-edition Lunalux holiday card. Don’t believe me? Take a look at the picture in this blog post, from when we made the cards two years ago. We don’t get paid for this sort of thing, or even get credit anywhere in the catalog. But it’s the kind of exposure that would make my mom believe that I am Very Successful, and for that I am grateful.
