For the April 2 installment of Stationery Saturday, we’re offering three colorful spring designs. The yellow daisy, blue cubes and pink asters have been letterpress-printed on bright white 5×7-inch flats. We’ll personalize your favorite with the name or phrase of your choice, using modern sans serif lead letters and jet black ink. For the first time, we’re also offering an optional upgrade: lined envelopes! The regular price of $29.00 for 10 cards includes pure white square-flap A7 envelopes, but we also have a limited supply of envelopes lined with coordinating tissue, which are available for an extra $1.00 per envelope. The press will be up and running from 11a.m. to 6p.m., so we hope you’ll stop by for a little letterpress action! We’ll have coffee and homemade cookies for all visitors, and if the weathermen are right about it being sunny and 50, we hope to have the front door propped open too! We think it’s going to be a fabulous day.

We created these skyline invitations last spring for a couple who was planning a downtown wedding. When they asked about the possibility of including an image of Minneapolis on the invitations, we had just finished printing notecards featuring a modified photograph of our downtown skyline (the cards were featured in our blog last March). So it was a breeze to translate this into a sophisticated urban invitation suite. The skyline and invitation text were letterpress-printed in sepia ink on 110# natural white Strathmore wove-finish cover. We created matching smaller cards for the hotel information and RSVP.

We’re looking forward to participating in MN Made, a great showcase of Minnesota’s creativity at the Walker Art Center on April 9. The museum is hosting discussion panels with local creatives (such as “How to quit your day job and do what you love”), workshops led by Minnesota crafters (try your hand at Crop Art at noon in the art lab!) and a market featuring hand-made goods of all sorts. Lunalux owner Jenni Undis will lead a collage card making workshop at 2:00p.m. – we’ll supply security envelopes, used postage stamps from around the world, and letterpress-printed greetings for participants to use in their own hand-made greeting cards (examples shown below – can’t wait to see what everyone else comes up with!). Our wholesale catalog has been updated for the first time in TOO LONG! Despite the tactile nature of letterpress printing, we’re sticking with an online digital catalog this time. We hope buyers new and old will flip through the virtual pages, as we’ve got some crowd-pleasers. We’re especially happy about our newest quote card, shown here. This card was originally printed as a promotional postcard mailer for our Minneapolis studio store. When it hit mailboxes back in early February, we were so happy to receive so much positive feedback from our friends and clients – we knew we had to offer it as a folded card too. It’s printed in gray and orange inks on a bright-white A2 folder, paired with an orange envelope. Since we started selling them in our shoppe last month, it’s been a hot seller.

The studio’s abuzz this afternoon as we prepare for another Stationery Saturday. All day this Saturday, March 5, 11a.m.-6p.m., we’ll have black ink on the rollers of our Heidelberg windmill press, and your personalization wish shall be our command. This week we’re offering letter sheets with ornate Victorian borders. Three designs have been pre-printed: a delicate aqua filigree; a floral cherry-red rounded frame; and a commanding golden border reminiscent of bank notes and stock certificates. Tell us what name or initials you want letterpress-printed on your favorite design, and we’ll dip into our case of Bernhard Modern 12-point lead type. For just $29, you get a set of ten hefty natural white 7×10-inch stationery sheets with matching natural white envelopes. You can watch as we set the type and ready the machine, and get an up-close view of the printing process. Or just enjoy a homemade cookie and browse in our shop while we make the magic happen. Either way, you go home with a modestly priced but extremely personal treasure.
