New wholesale catalog

Our wholesale catalog has been updated for the first time in TOO LONG! Despite the tactile nature of letterpress printing, we’re sticking with an online digital catalog this time. The 16-page showcase of our ready-made greeting cards and paper goods can be viewed online at issuu.com, along with our wholesale price list. We hope buyers new and old will flip through the virtual pages, as we’ve got some crowd-pleasers. We’re especially happy about our newest quote card, shown here. This card was originally printed as a promotional postcard mailer for our Minneapolis studio store. When it hit mailboxes back in early February, we were so happy to receive so much positive feedback from our friends and clients – we knew we had to offer it as a folded card too. It’s printed in gray and orange inks on a bright-white A2 folder, paired with an orange envelope. Since we started selling them in our shoppe last month, it’s been a hot seller.

New online shop

We finally have an online shop! Now Lunalux fans near and far can get their letterpress-loving paws on our stuff via the Felt & Wire Shop, a curated online marketplace full of design-driven cards and gifts. Like everything around here, our Felt & Wire shop is a work in progress; we try to add a few new things every day, so there’s an ever-growing selection. Today’s milestone: all of our ready-made holiday cards are now online (including two new creations, shown below). All Chickenboys are present and accounted for, as are many other customer favorites, such as the Fortune Folio, the Irreverent Series, and the Bacon-Eating Contest card. Thank-you notes, call-me cards, scratch pads and posters are on the short list of Products to Add Soon. We’ve even posted our Stationery Saturday designs there in the last couple months, allowing our friends to order personalized stationery from afar. We’ve flirted with other online marketplaces in recent years, but they all felt too cluttered and anything-goes. When we found the Felt & Wire Shop, it seemed a perfect fit. The site is run by the fine folks at Mohawk paper (they make Strathmore Writing, one of our go-to stocks for greeting cards, stationery & invitations), and we love that there’s a tight focus on stationery and other paper-based goods. It’s truly an honor to be included! If you’re a fan of ours, or just a stationery geek in general, you’re sure to flip out over all the creative products for sale, from gritty wood-type posters to polished calendars and hand-bound journals. We try not to spend too much time clicking around over here, lest we spend all of our allowance in one place!

After creating a couple of wedding invitations featuring this squirrelly image, we decided to use it on birthday and thank-you cards (printed on our favorite paper: 88# natural white Strathmore bristol cover). And so our line expands again, a little at a time. More importantly, we’re thrilled to release a refreshed catalog for our wholesale line! This 16-pager includes photographs of all greeting cards, call-me cards and stationery sets that we’re currently offering (including over 2 dozen new greeting cards released in 2009). Wholesalers old and new are encouraged to visit the catalog page to download the the catalog (split into three big PDF files) and the wholesale price list and take a look at our current lineup; we think you’ll be impressed! Though sales have been sluggish for us (and, uh, everyone else in the world?), we’ve noticed that stores who are ordering from us are also re-ordering, on a pretty regular basis! If you’re just a fan of our products (rather than a buyer for a store), you are also welcome to download our catalog. As always, we encourage shoppers to check with their local card and gift shops, we love to send business to the stores who have been supporting us for years. Dads and Grads

June brings to mind two big holidays: Father’s Day and graduation season. So if you’re looking to honor the dad or the grad in your life with a little hand-written love, Lunalux has just the cards for you. Our studio store is stocked with a great selection of designs from some of our favorite card lines, including Hello Lucky, La Familia Green, Cribnotes, Spark, and Egg Press. On the grad side, we’re most pleased to introduce the newest addition to our wholesale line. Everyone’s favorite heavy metal hand gesture is paired with the triumphant declaration: “School’s out for summer! School’s out forever!” Letterpress-printed with black and purple inks on bright-white wove-finish Strathmore cover, paired with a purple envelope. This card rocks! But if you prefer a more sentimental approach to such milestones, this Kierkegaard card might be more your speed. We first printed this a few years ago as a New Year mailing to our loyal customers, but we’ve since come to love it as an encouraging bit of wisdom to someone who’s facing big life decisions (hello, graduates!). It’s letterpress-printed in black, cornflower blue and mermaid green on hefty suede-like ecru card stock. For the father figures in your life, we also have a handsome assortment of cards to consider. Our faves are pictures below: the newest Fathers Day card from Lunalux featuring a vintage border, and the #1 Dad mug design from Cribnotes up in Canada (needle nose pliers not included). In the past few months, we have created lots of new letterpress-printed greeting cards for our wholesale line. Last week we sent samples to our sales reps; now we want wholesale buyers new and old to see them too! We’ve added yet another PDF to our catalog page, click here to download that document (cleverly titled lunaluxnew09) and check out all our new additions. The 22 new cards — a monumental release by Lunalux standards — includes an addition to the very popular Chickenboy series. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we have a tu-tu-clad chickenboy-ballerina, mid-grand jeté, declaring “I love you this much!” You’ll find other love-themed cards that are great for V-Day, plus new designs for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and graduation, some holiday cards (plan ahead for Christmas ’09!) and plenty of charming everyday. As soon as we get these new cards properly promoted, we’ll start work on a new full catalog, which we hope to have ready in the next month or two. We hope you like our new cards, and we hope you’ll call us if you have any questions! Mind your manners and be sure to send proper thank-you notes for any and all holiday gifts you received! At a loss for words? Check out the in-depth thank-you note primer we published last January. Need some thank-you notes? Consider this new design we just added to our wholesale line. “Thanks a Million” is letterpress-printed in gold ink, surrounded by an intricate vintage frame in dark green, on thick natural white wove-finish bristol cover. It looks so money, literally and figuratively. “Thanks a Million” is available now at the Lunalux store; individual cards cost $4, boxes of 6 cards go for $14. This card is one one of six new designs that we just finished printing last week, all featuring vintage decorative frames – we should have more images of these new cards on our site soon, but if you can’t wait that long, check the Lunalux Facebook page for a sneak peek.

More new additions to the wholesale line

Hot off the press: three new cards featuring illustrations by former Lunalux intern Katie Wilson. My favorite is the Magical Birthday card, featuring a cupcake-wielding bunny popping out of a magician’s top hat. This one’s letterpress-printed in black and purple inks on bright white wove-finish card stock, and paired with a purple envelope. I came up with the concept (“Everyone loves bunnies, and everyone loves cupcakes, and we need more birthday cards. So how about, like, a bunny coming out of a top hat, holding a cupcake?”) but my drawing skills are … how shall we put this delicately? … lacking. So Katie took my silly idea and created this adorable picture. We love her style, and are so pleased to be able to work with her – we hope everyone will buy lots of her cards so we can hire her to make more stuff for us!

People who know new parents should enjoy the Cool Baby card, featuring a tattooed baby – we think this is a much-needed option in a card category that’s flooded with cutesy pink and blue images. And then there’s the racy Mustache Ride card, which pairs an old-fashioned handlebar mustache with old-fashioned typefaces. We’re pretty sure this card is going to be a hit with the fellas for Valentine’s Day. You can click on the image to the right for a larger picture of these two cards.

All of Katie’s cards are already available at the Lunalux studio store, they’re just $4.00 each. We’re working on new sample decks and catalogs for our sales reps, so buyers across the country should be seeing these early in 2009. New Lunalux holiday cards

Earlier this year, we created a few cards for our wholesale line that were based on a postcard we mailed out to our store mailing list – an ornate flourish paired with simple greetings (we wrote about these cards back in April, click here to view that blog post). We liked these cards so much, we decided to create a couple new versions for the holiday season. Click on the picture at the left for a larger view. The Christmas card features a rich red graphic and gold greeting, letterpress-printed on natural white wove-finish card stock; the Peace card has the flourish printed in silver ink, with the words in navy blue, all letterpress-printed on bright white wove-finish cards. These holiday greetings measure 4.25×5.5 inches and are paired with standard A2-sized envelopes. They’re available now in the Lunalux studio store – individual cards are $4.00 each, and boxes of 8 are $16.00. What a beautiful way to send holiday cheer!

New double-happiness card

The double-happiness motif we created last winter for Michelle and Joe’s wedding invitations turned out so great, I’ve been jonesing for another opportunity to use it. Which brings us to this addition to our wholesale line of greeting cards, the new double-happiness wedding card. This traditional Chinese symbol is letterpress-printed in red ink on a natural white 88# wove-finish card, which folds to 5.5×4.25 inches to fit into a vibrant red envelope. Right now, the card is for sale exclusively at the Lunalux studio store for $4. Later this year, when we get our act together and assemble updated sample decks for our sales reps, the card should start showing up in other stores too.
