Download our new catalog

After creating a couple of wedding invitations featuring this squirrelly image, we decided to use it on birthday and thank-you cards (printed on our favorite paper: 88# natural white Strathmore bristol cover). And so our line expands again, a little at a time. More importantly, we’re thrilled to release a refreshed catalog for our wholesale line! This 16-pager includes photographs of all greeting cards, call-me cards and stationery sets that we’re currently offering (including over 2 dozen new greeting cards released in 2009). Wholesalers old and new are encouraged to visit the catalog page to download the the catalog (split into three big PDF files) and the wholesale price list and take a look at our current lineup; we think you’ll be impressed! Though sales have been sluggish for us (and, uh, everyone else in the world?), we’ve noticed that stores who are ordering from us are also re-ordering, on a pretty regular basis! If you’re just a fan of our products (rather than a buyer for a store), you are also welcome to download our catalog. As always, we encourage shoppers to check with their local card and gift shops, we love to send business to the stores who have been supporting us for years. But if you can’t find Lunalux cards in a store near you, we’re happy to sell you some paper goodies. Just use this contact form to e-mail us a request for our retail order form.
Design + Print: custom letterpress bookplates

Do you love the tradition of book plates as much as we do? If so, consider marking your biblio-territory with a personalized sticker. We’ve created a few recently and are excited to share them here. These bookplates (click on the image to the left for a larger view) were created for a friend who was recuperating from an operation – she’s part birder, part princess, so the pink birdie was a perfect fit. They’re letterpress-printed on 25% cotton wove-finish peel-and-stick labels, and trimmed to just 2 inches square.
Like everything that we create at Lunalux, bookplates can be customized in many ways. We have a vast library of images and typefaces to choose from, and can mix virtually any color ink. While Emily’s bookplate is girly and modern, Nick got something a more goofy and old-timey for his birthday. And while Emily’s were created specifically for her growing personal library, Nick’s bookplates are a little more open-ended in nature, so they can be placed not just in books but also on records or frisbees or anything else that might need to find its way back home.
More new additions to the wholesale line
Hot off the press: three new cards featuring illustrations by former Lunalux intern Katie Wilson. My favorite is the Magical Birthday card, featuring a cupcake-wielding bunny popping out of a magician’s top hat. This one’s letterpress-printed in black and purple inks on bright white wove-finish card stock, and paired with a purple envelope. I came up with the concept (“Everyone loves bunnies, and everyone loves cupcakes, and we need more birthday cards. So how about, like, a bunny coming out of a top hat, holding a cupcake?”) but my drawing skills are … how shall we put this delicately? … lacking. So Katie took my silly idea and created this adorable picture. We love her style, and are so pleased to be able to work with her – we hope everyone will buy lots of her cards so we can hire her to make more stuff for us!
People who know new parents should enjoy the Cool Baby card, featuring a tattooed baby – we think this is a much-needed option in a card category that’s flooded with cutesy pink and blue images. And then there’s the racy Mustache Ride card, which pairs an old-fashioned handlebar mustache with old-fashioned typefaces. We’re pretty sure this card is going to be a hit with the fellas for Valentine’s Day. You can click on the image to the right for a larger picture of these two cards.
All of Katie’s cards are already available at the Lunalux studio store, they’re just $4.00 each. We’re working on new sample decks and catalogs for our sales reps, so buyers across the country should be seeing these early in 2009. If you’re a buyer for a retail store and you’re interested in our wholesale line, you can find more information, including a link to download our wholesale catalog, on our products page. Or browse our blog archives, where you can read about other recent additions to our line.
Design + Print: Squirrelly wedding invitations
November 25, 2008 by Jenni · Leave a Comment
We recently created this unique wedding invitation for Nicole and Zeb, a sweet couple with a nutty sense of humor. At our initial meeting, the betrothed were interested in two different concepts: intricate scroll/vine illustrations, or a squirrel in a tree. After reviewing our initial round of invitation mock-ups, the squirrel was the clear winner. It’s so much fun when clients come to us with original ideas, and we get to bring those ideas to life. I’m very pleased with how these invitations turned out – the quirky motif, cool color scheme, and chunky typesetting are all fresh elements for us, and it’s always a treat to do something new!
We developed the squirrel-in-the-tree graphic using a few different pieces of clip art, and paired the image with sturdy, interesting fonts. The invitation, RSVP postcard, information/directions card, and thank-you flat were all letterpress-printed in gray and navy ink on florescent white 100% cotton Lettra cover, and paired with pale gray envelopes.
Like all of our wedding invitations, Nicole & Zeb’s suite was custom-designed just for them. We specialize in working closely with couples to develop wedding stationery that reflects their personality and the mood of the event, be it whimsical and fun or romantic and old-fashioned. Wedding invitation inspires holiday card
Over the summer, I worked with my niece and her fiancé on invitations for their very casual wedding. They planned an intimate outdoor ceremony, followed by a great big picnic. Even though the bride is a vegan, the wedding menu was sure to include burgers and brats – so the happy couple laughed as they decided to feature swooning cows on the invites. Monica supplied a darling sketch, which I translated into a smoother, press-ready illustration. They also wanted to use green products where feasible, so we letterpress-printed on recycled chip board and envelopes from earth-loving French Paper Company. The autumnal color scheme and non-traditional wording was a great reflection of what turned out to be a beautiful, un-fussy, perfectly Them wedding celebration!
I loved the cows so much that, with Monica’s permission, the lady cow now graces one of our new holiday cards. This time the cow is printed in black ink on bright white wove-finish card stock, and she’s holding a poinsettia rather than a daisy. “Have a Very Dairy Christmas” she exclaims – corny, I know, but I couldn’t help myself. This year, the Dairy Christmas card will be available exclusively at the Lunalux studio store ($4 for a single card, $16 for a box of 8). We’re working on a bunch of new cards which we will start to promote through our sales reps after the holidays, so hopefully the holiday cow will make her way into other stationery shops next year!
